Those are excellent arguments as well. I would argue against Template Monster, still. Those sites are sold 1000s of times and, while there are millions of sites around the web, if it is an industry-specific template like discussed, your sample size shrinks considerably. Duplicate sites, duplicate content...it all adds up to an unoriginal site that doesn't compliment your company's brand/image.

Re: Website Design Templates Make a Terrible Choice

When I read this: " ...most of them aren't very good..." and "...the same 45 that hundreds of your competitors are already using..." then I guess you aren't aware of the top notch templates that are produced by Template Monster. They are easy to customize and are 100% compliant with the newest W3C standards. But also: with millions of web presences on the web, the chance of encountering the exact website template is zero to non. Maybe it's better to use more sensible arguments on why not using ready made templates, like: the website won't comply with the feel and identity of the company. Or: In less than 2 years your company needs a new website because the lack of support from the web designer that delivered the template made the website content outdated and a total disaster to look at, and because of that you need to reinvest money again. I understand you point, but don't think people - that are looking for a web presence - are stupid...

Re: Writing for Search Engine Optimization AND People

Regarding:
"A good example of this would be a company that sells any given product writing a blog post about a unique way to use their product. Though it is important to take in mind SEO when writing on your blog, you still have to consider your readers because they are the one who will judge if you are a good blogger or not. So keep it balance is what I think. But you certainly have good points and I appreciate the share.

Re: Writing for Search Engine Optimization AND People

I kind of agree... but I am realizing more and more that current SEO practices will eventually fade away (i.e. writing for the search engines). Probably not overnight though I'll admit.

But I think more importantly that writing for a specific target audience segment that you are trying to attract is more beneficial in the long term. Sure your SERPs will struggle a bit in the beginning, but you will develop a fanatical following from real people - which is the whole point of SEO is it not?

I like to think I am as well versed as the next SEO, and granted I do put time into optimizing my sites but I have a gut feeling that the web is starting to embrace more sematic indexing (human input into how things are ranked rather than relying on a bot). I think that the new facebook 'Like' button is only the first step towards a more socially controlled web.

I admit that backlink building with relevant anchor text and proper on site linking and on page factors do get some effective results, but I just find that when this is all I focus on then the results can be limited.

Just my 2 cents

Re: The Latest Library Script Tags – All In One Place – Scriptsrc.net

Thanks for the comment! I took out the bulk of the link to make it easier to read.

Anyway, just thought I'd let you know, apart from that, nice work!

Re: 27 Social Media Blogs You Aren’t Reading, But Should Be

Thanks for including mine and for this great list.
